Mole Screening & Skin Lesion Assessment
Doctor-Led Skin Checks for Early Detection & Peace of Mind
Regular mole screening plays an important role in the early detection of changes in your skin. Whether you've noticed a new mole, a changing skin lesion or simply want reassurance, our experienced doctors provide comprehensive head-to-toe skin assessments using advanced dermoscopy.
Every assessment is performed by an experienced doctor and is designed to identify suspicious moles or skin lesions that may require further investigation or ongoing monitoring.
What Does a Mole Screening Include?
Your appointment includes a comprehensive skin assessment from head to toe, allowing your doctor to examine moles and other skin lesions across your body.
During your appointment we will:
✓ Comprehensive head-to-toe skin examination
✓ Assessment of moles, freckles and pigmented lesions
✓ Examination of other concerning skin lesions
✓ Digital dermoscopic imaging of relevant moles
✓ Clinical documentation for future comparison
✓ Advice regarding skin health and sun protection
Where appropriate, we will recommend ongoing monitoring or further investigation.
What is Dermoscopy?
Dermoscopy is a specialised examination technique that allows your doctor to assess structures beneath the surface of the skin that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
Using a high-quality dermatoscope, magnified images of selected moles and skin lesions are examined and documented, allowing for a more detailed clinical assessment and comparison over time.
This improves diagnostic accuracy and helps identify lesions that may require further review.
If a Mole Requires Further Investigation
If your doctor identifies a mole or skin lesion that requires specialist assessment, an onward referral to a Consultant Dermatologist will be arranged.
Should a skin biopsy or complete removal be clinically indicated, you have several options.
Hospital Referral
You may choose to be referred to either a public or private hospital for further investigation and management.
Please note that waiting times at public or independent hospitals and private clinics are determined by those providers. CUC Medical has no control over appointment availability or waiting times and cannot influence the scheduling of specialist consultations or procedures.
Biopsy Service at CUC Medical
Where clinically appropriate, we also offer an in-house skin biopsy service with no waiting list. This allows many patients to proceed with biopsy promptly, avoiding unnecessary delays while awaiting hospital appointments.
Your doctor will discuss the most appropriate management pathway based on your individual clinical findings.
Who Should Consider a Mole Check?
A mole screening assessment may be beneficial if you:
✓ Have noticed a new or changing mole
✓ Have multiple moles
✓ Have fair skin or significant sun exposure
✓ Have a personal or family history of skin cancer
✓ Have concerns about any skin lesion
✓ Would like reassurance and a professional skin assessment
Protecting Your Skin
Early assessment of suspicious skin lesions can lead to earlier diagnosis and appropriate treatment where necessary. Regular skin examinations are particularly important for individuals at increased risk of skin cancer or those who spend significant time outdoors.
If you notice any mole that changes in size, shape, colour or appearance, or develops symptoms such as bleeding, itching or crusting, we recommend arranging an assessment without delay.
