Sculptra® Collagen Biostimulator
Look refreshed. Still look like you.
Sculptra® is a collagen biostimulator designed to stimulate your skin’s own collagen production, helping to gradually improve skin laxity, facial support and age-related changes. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which provide more immediate correction or volume, Sculptra works progressively, with improvements developing over the weeks and months following treatment.
What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is an injectable collagen biostimulator containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Rather than simply adding immediate volume, Sculptra works by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production.
The product itself is gradually absorbed, while the collagen response it stimulates develops over time. For this reason, Sculptra results are progressive rather than immediate, making it particularly suitable for patients looking for gradual, natural-looking improvement.
What can Sculptra help with?
As we age, collagen production decreases and the skin can gradually lose firmness, elasticity and support. This can contribute to skin laxity, changes in facial volume and lines or folds becoming more noticeable.
At CUC, Sculptra may be considered for patients concerned about:
-
Loss of collagen and skin firmness
-
Skin laxity
-
Age-related changes in facial support
-
Loss of volume in appropriate areas
-
Increasingly pronounced nasolabial folds
-
Marionette lines
-
Lines and folds that have become more noticeable as skin support decreases
Treatment is always based on individual facial assessment, as Sculptra will not be the most appropriate option for every concern.
Areas commonly treated with Sculptra
Depending on your individual facial anatomy and treatment goals, Sculptra may be used to treat areas including the mid-face, temples, jawline, nasolabial folds and marionette areas.
Rather than treating an isolated line alone, the aim is often to improve the underlying support of the surrounding tissues through collagen stimulation.
Sculptra vs Dermal Filler
Sculptra and traditional dermal fillers can both form part of a facial treatment plan, but they work differently.
Dermal fillers can provide more immediate correction or volume in carefully selected areas. Sculptra is a biostimulator: the injected product is gradually absorbed while stimulating collagen production within the treated tissues.
As a result, Sculptra does not provide the same immediate result associated with dermal filler. Changes develop gradually over the following weeks and months as new collagen is produced.
For some patients, Sculptra may be appropriate on its own. For others, different injectable or skin treatments may better address their concerns. This is determined during consultation rather than choosing a treatment based on the product alone.
What to expect from your Sculptra treatment
Your treatment begins with a consultation and facial assessment at CUC. We will discuss the changes you have noticed, the degree of improvement you are hoping to achieve and whether Sculptra is an appropriate treatment for you.
Because Sculptra works by stimulating collagen production, results develop gradually rather than immediately.
Depending on your starting point and treatment goals, a course of Sculptra treatments may be recommended, with treatments typically spaced approximately four weeks apart. Your individual treatment plan will be discussed during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Sculptra and how does it work? Sculptra® is an injectable collagen biostimulator containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which can provide more immediate correction or volume, Sculptra works by stimulating your body's own collagen production. The product is gradually absorbed while the collagen response develops, resulting in progressive changes over the following weeks and months.
How many Sculptra treatments will I need? The number of treatments required varies from patient to patient. Some patients may benefit from a course of treatments to achieve their desired result. Where a course is recommended, treatments are typically spaced approximately four weeks apart. Your individual treatment plan will be discussed during your consultation.
Is Sculptra the same as dermal filler? No. Although both are injectable treatments, they work differently. Traditional dermal fillers can provide more immediate correction or volume, while Sculptra is a biostimulator that encourages your body to produce collagen over time. The most appropriate treatment depends on your individual concerns and desired outcome.
How long does it take to see results from Sculptra? Sculptra results are gradual rather than immediate. As collagen production increases following treatment, patients may begin to notice progressive improvements over the following weeks and months. The timing and degree of improvement vary between individuals and depend on factors including the treatment area, starting point and treatment plan.
What areas can be treated with Sculptra? At CUC, Sculptra may be used in areas including the mid-face, temples, jawline, nasolabial folds and marionette areas. The areas treated will depend on your facial anatomy, degree of collagen and volume loss, and the changes you would like to address.
Is Sculptra available in both Cavan and Kildare? Yes. Sculptra consultations and treatments are available at CUC Medical & Aesthetics in Cavan and Kildare. A consultation allows us to assess your concerns, discuss your goals and determine whether Sculptra or another treatment would be most appropriate for you.
